Charles Newton

Charles E. Newton, 92, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Health Hospital. Charles was born in Fordsville, Kentucky on September 11, 1926 to the late Emmett Newton and Lillie Sanders Newton. He retired from ARKLA Corp. as a welder and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Charles was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, the AMVets, and a former member of the American Legion. Charles enjoyed cooking, collecting coins, guns, civil war mementoes, and entering the backyard Bar-b-que cook off at the Bar-b-que festival.

Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Rice Newton, his daughters, Glenda Simmons and Charlotte Stogner, his sisters: Lucille, Margaret, Mildred, Betty, Dorothy, Linda, Susie, Bonnie, Evelyn, Lillian; his brothers, Danny, James, and Kenneth.

Charles is survived by his children, Charles (fiancée Marsha) Newton, Jr., of Owensboro and Steve (Robin) Newton of Henderson, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, his brother, George Newton of Owensboro, and his sister Helen Herode of Hawesville.

Expressions of sympathy make take the form of donations to AMVets; 2600 West 2nd Street; Owensboro, Kentucky 42301. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Tim Hall officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 am to 12:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
