oris M. Sublett, 87, of Owensboro, passed away February 3, 2019. She was born in Owensboro on November 10, 1931 to the late Forrest H. and May Coons Sublett. Doris graduated from Daviess County High School in 1950 earned her Bachelor of Art degree in education at Kentucky Wesleyan College, and a Master of Science degree at Indiana University. A dedicated member of Dawson Baptist Church, Doris was a Vacation Bible School Director, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Senior Adults Serving group. Doris taught elementary school for 38 years, primarily first grade at Whitesville Elementary. She retired, and then continued in the education field by working as an assistant at Green River Teaching Center.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional society for women educators, and the Habit Homemakers. Always active, Doris enjoyed traveling all over the globe, exercising daily, planting flowers, creating all kinds of crafts, and keeping tabs on all her nieces, and nephews. An open-minded and curious person, Doris was always up for a new adventure.
Doris was also preceded in death by her brother, Forrest C. Sublett; brother-in-law, Roger Kaufmann, and infant sisters, Nancy Lee and Dorothy Jean Sublett.
She is survived by her sister, best friend, and caregiver during her final years, Jane Kaufmann; nieces and nephews, Carol Kaufmann Enochs (Kevin), of Alexandria, VA., Steven Kaufmann (Jill) of Bend, OR, Daniel Sublett, Michael Sublett (Sharon), Kathy Semro (Jerry), Nelda Brown (Tim), sister-in-law, Mary Sublett; great nieces and nephews, Karen Sublett, Keith Sublett, Chad Sublett, J.R. Semro, Elisa Sipla, Andrea Schmitt, Luke and Sara Clare Enochs, and a host of great-great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday and after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The committal service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Dawson Baptist Church Missions Fund, Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools, and/or Doctors Without Borders.
