Maceo

Gilbert Lee Oliver, 100 of Maceo, Kentucky, died Monday, October 2, 2023. He was born April 9, 1923 in rural Daviess County to the late James T. and Charlie Anna (Roberts) Oliver. He was a member of Maceo Baptist Church and formerly a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mr. Oliver retired as President of Gilbert Oliver Corporation and enjoyed raising cattle and crop farming in his retirement.

Mr. Oliver worked in the wholesale used car business for many years in Owensboro but worked previously for Tichenor Oldsmobile, Chevrolet and Cadillac Dealership in Hartford, Kentucky as the new car sales manager where he earned numerous awards for outstanding salesmanship. Prior to that, Mr. Oliver worked at Chambers Parker Motors as a mechanic and later, as a salesman. He graduated from Daviess County High School in 1941. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Owensboro-Yellow Banks 130 Masonic Lodge.

In 1945, Mr. Oliver married Jacqueline Pool and together they built a wonderful life until her death in 2003. He was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. He loved little children, dogs and a good joke. He truly loved the Lord and spoke openly about his faith. He supported his church and would gladly help a neighbor in need. He was truly the best father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jackie, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert C. Oliver and Chester T. Oliver as well as nieces, Janice Faye Oliver McKinney and Brenda Oliver Young.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Anne Oliver; a grandson, Timothy Ryan Corcoran; a sister-in-law, Elsie Oliver of Wisconsin; three nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Kathy and Tim wish to express gratitude to Cindy Evans and Kim Roberts for their support and assistance over the years. They also express gratitude to Brent Cates of Intrepid and the staff of Hospice of Western Kentucky.
