Gilbert Allen Simmons

Gilbert Allen Simmons, 95, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born July 1, 1928 in Daviess County to the late Wilford and Sarah Corine Simmons. Gilbert retired after 37 years from Velvet Milk Company, was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Gilbert was a kind and gentle man, a good father, and a friend to all. He will be missed!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two beautiful wives, Mona Jean Simmons, after 24 years of marriage and his second wife, Johnnie Simmons, after 35 years of marriage; two daughters, Charlene Mize and Martha Stepp; son-in-law, Bill Webb; and siblings, Margaret Russell, Miles Simmons, Dennis Simmons, Carrie Midkiff, Thelma Mattingly, and Peggy Wilhite.

Survivors include his children, Darlene Webb, Judy (Ernie) Eubanks, Gary (Karen) Simmons, and Scott Simmons; grandchildren, Jeannie Jewell, Shannon Leonard, Jennifer Scott, Amber Preston, Chrissy Simmons, Stephanie Dunn, Gregory Simmons, Dusti Gonzalez, Jake Simmons, Jeremy Johnston, Jason Mize, and Carol McIntosh; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Rose (Wayne) Carlisle; son-in-law, Gary Mize; brothers-in-law, Fred Wilhite and Billy Midkiff; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Private family burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is on Sunday from noon until time of the service at the funeral home.
