Gladys Mae Keown, 91, of Philpot, went to meet the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2023. She married the love of her life, George "Hoppy" Keown on April 13, 1948. Gladys was born to the late McAtee and Mamie Hale on March 31,1932. She worked many years at Westinghouse and retired from North American Phillips. For years she was an active member of Pleasant Ridge Holiness Church where she often sang in church. Gladys was an avid Kentucky Wildcats and Atlanta Braves fan. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and watching her gospel shows on TV and "The Price Is Right". She always wore a smile and loved the Lord. Gladys' favorite holiday was Thanksgiving and host her family and friends being together often serving her notorious Apple Date Cake.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, George "Hoppy" Keown; brothers, Clarance Hale (infant) and McAtee Hale, Jr.; and a daughter, Karen Scott.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon Keown Chaffin (Larry) and Rhonda Lyn Keown Davie (Clayton, Jr.); son, Paul Keown (Denise); grandchildren, Angela Chaffin Rummage (Gene), Andrea Chaffin Thomas, Thomas LaRoche, David LaRoche (Elisha), Dana LaRoche Truitt (Larry), Niki Noto Palmer (Michael), Kendra Keown Douglas (Nate), Courtland Keown, Emma Avis Davie; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Tice; sisters-in-law, Jo Anne Hale, Opal Keown, and Wanda Keown; and a brother- in-law, Charles Keown, Jr. She was Aunt Gladys to several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, January 5, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory with Brothers Ancle Wilson and Rick Wedding officiating. Interment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
