Ira Reathel Embry, Sr., 90, of Stanley, passed away on Wednesday June 26, 2019 at his home. He was born July 22, 1928 in Butler Co. to the late Calvin and Luvina Casey Embry. Ira was retired from Owensboro Brick and Tile after 45 years as a fork lift operator and foreman. He was a member of Garden Green Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. Ira was known as "The Lawnmower Man" by many people and would haul rock in his truck for anyone that needed any. He loved riding in his truck when he no longer could drive and also loved taking his grandkids riding around in his golf cart. Ira devoted his entire life to his wife Mary Lois who preceded him in death on December 14, 2005. Also preceding him in death were brothers, Shelton, Herman, Hayward, and Orville Embry and Trubert Daughterty, sisters, Lucy Duke and Tine Henderson, a granddaughter, Sylvia Embry, daughters-in-law, Marlene Embry and Sandy Embry, and sons-in-law, Benny Berry and Roy Barnett.
Surviving are four daughters, Patty Gail Clark, Alice Berry, and Pamela Green (Rev. Kevin) all of Owensboro, and Betty Barnett of Maceo, three sons, Ira Embry, Jr. and James Embry (Nora), all of Stanley, and Wayne Embry of Owensboro, 27 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, two brothers, Albert Embry (Lorene) of Butler Co. and Paul Embry (Devoise) of Owensboro, and sisters-in-law, Gustine Embry, Ruby Embry, and Marie Barnes.
The Funeral Service for Ira Embry, Sr. will be Noon Saturday, June 29, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM until 12 Noon Saturday at the funeral home.
