Mary McGhee

November 11, 1939 — January 9, 2021

Mary Alice (Stephens) McGhee went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 9, 2021 after a valiant journey with end stage renal disease. Mary Alice (Stephens) McGhee was born on November 11, 1939 in Tell City, IN. She attended Tell City High School in Tell City, IN. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1961 from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Evansville, IN.  Her nursing career included Mercy Hospital, with the majority of her career as a Wound and Ostomy Care Specialist at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital, and Community Health Services in Owensboro, KY as a Home Health Nurse. Mary retired in July 2006 when she moved to Alabama.

Mary married the love of her life, Gene McGhee, on September 4, 1961. They were married for 26 years before Gene went to be with the Lord on November 22, 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene McGhee; her parents Anna Mae (Lamkin) and Lester K. Stephens, brother LeRoy, and her sister Hazel Greulich. She is survived by her children Teresa (John) Simmons, Madison, AL; Debbie (Larry) Alley, Union Grove, AL; Tony (Sandra) McGhee, New Castle, KY; Valarie (Steve) Rittmeyer, Owensboro, KY; grandchildren Sarah(Justin) Moody, Hannah(Caleb) Pirtle, Olivia Simmons (fiancé Haden Wilkinson), Will Simmons; Mikayla and Morgan Alley; Noah and Luke McGhee; Megan, Allison and Jenna Rittmeyer; great grandchildren Liam and Owen Moody. Mary has a great granddaughter, Addison Grace Pirtle, due in March 2021. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Stephens (Judith O’Dea), Corvallis, MT and Joyce (Jerry) Buxton, Chrisney, IN.

She was a beloved wife, loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She loved to serve the Lord and would share her faith and all the Lord had done for her to anyone, anywhere.  She loved gardening and was a Big University of Kentucky Basketball fan. Mary was loved dearly by her family, and she will be greatly missed. We take great comfort in knowing she is healed and home with her Lord and Savior and re-united with Gene.
