Samuel Everly, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on February 26, 2024.
Sam grew up in Owensboro as the youngest of ten children in a three room shot-gun house with a two-seater outhouse. His oldest brother was 25 years older than him, and being the baby, his sisters treated him like one of their baby dolls!
Sam quit school after the 8th grade and never let that stop him as he pursued employment. He worked laying tile with his older nephew, raced micro-midget cars, and often had to choose between groceries or paying the entry fee for the next race. That give him incentive to win! His final job was working in the warehouse at OMU until retirement in 1997.
Sam loved to collect and restore old straight razors, muzzle loaders, and making or restoring old knives. He restored an old blacksmith forge and all the tools just for the fun.
He met and married his beloved wife, Betty Lou Cummings in 1959 and gave life to a son, Samuel "Kerry" Everly, and a daughter, Devona Gay Everly (Grace).
Sam will join his wife , Betty Lou, who passed on January 11, 2019, and son, Kerry, who passed on July 27, 2014.
He is survived by his daughter, Devona Grace and husband Mark; granddaughter, Shawna (Wildes), great grandchildren, Kenadi, Aria-Quinn, Kaine, Nova, and Lilli; grandson, Joshua (Grace), great grandchildren, Collin, Casmira, Piper, Saldia, and Dehvyln, and grandson, Mathew Grace.
Services will be held at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery on March 11, 2024 at 1:30 pm.
