Mary Lois Nugent, 93, passed away peacefully August 12, 2020 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN where she was on Hospice Care. A funeral service will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on 5110 Gallatin Pike S, Nashville, TN on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM CDT, with visitation for friends and family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Masks and social distancing are required. For the visitation, only 25 people are requested in the room at a time. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 1:00 PM conducted from the grounds of Rosehill Elmwood Cemetery 1300 Old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY with visitation prior at the graveside starting at Noon.
Mary Lois was born August 4, 1927 in Cloverport, KY to Floyd and Dessie (Snyder) Nugent. She was the fifth child of six children.
In 1944 Mary Lois made her choice to serve God. She attended the Christian fellowship meetings in her parents’ home. After attending business college, she moved to Tell City, IN where she lived with an aunt and worked at General Electric until she heard the call from God to be in the ministry where she served from 1949 until 2005. After that, she helped as she was able until 2010. She continued to serve with her spirit as she lived with friends until 2017 when she went into Memory Care. Mary Lois was loved by everyone who knew her. She is remembered for her sweet spirit and her gentle ways.
Mary Lois is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Coleman (Jack) and Eula Mae Nugent; Jesse (JW) and Arline Nugent; Murrel and Betty Nugent; and sister, Hazel, and Jim Curtis. She is survived by her brother, Floyd Jr and Edith Nugent of Port Richey, FL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She leaves behind many good friends. One especially good friend, Lois Culver, was Mary Lois’ friend from childhood. They made their choice to serve God the same day. They went to the same fellowship meetings growing up. They both worked at General Electric, and they had two years together in the ministry. It is with honorable mention, she leaves behind this good friend and many others who loved her for the spirit she had.
